In the footsteps of German colonists in Bessarabia (Apr 25-27, 2022)
Until the resettlement in 1940, Germans have lived in Bessarabia at least for 5 generations. Even today,
we can find evidence of an epoch that passed. On this tour, we'll be looking for the traces of German presence in the region.
Highlights:
- Museums of German colonists;
- local wine tasting;
- traditional Bessarabian food;
- villages of German settlers;
- original German buildings;
- tours led by local experts;
-accommodation on the site of the revived ethnographic village;
- Hiking and birdwatching by the Black Sea
Day 1:
- A group will meet together at 8:30 a.m. by the central railway station in Odesa, Ukraine, and depart towards
Bessarabia by our comfortable private minibus.
We'll have the chance to enjoy our lunch at one of the best restaurants in the whole region trying Kurban, Kavarma, Milina and other dishes
of the local cuisine.
This afternoon we’ll be traveling back in time as we visit the German colonial museum, remains of the Werner school, and hear some
stories from the local expert.
We'll be staying at a comfortable ethnographic center called "Frumushika-Nova", one of the best places to explore the region.
Day 2:
- This morning, we’ll head out to visit Tarutino, the first German colony in Bessarabia. Local citizen of German
origin will tell us some stories from the town's history and show some unique heritage examples. We'll explore the old mill built
by German settlers in 1933, eat some homemade food cooked with the old Bessarabian recipe. Later in the afternoon, we’ll take a drive
to Friedenstal, a former Lutheran village where we'll learn more about the everyday life of the German settlers in the 19th century.
We'll come back to "Frumushika-Nova" for the private dinner. As we dine, everyone can share an impression of what we've seen that day.
Day 3:
- Today, we are off to visit an old Bessarabian farmstead, its owner preserves authentic traditions of the region. We're going to see an
original German embroidery and feel warm local hospitality.
Before heading back to Odesa, we'll enjoy an amazing hiking & birdwatching experience along the picturesque marine lagoon.
You'll find some rare bird species here.
We'll be back to Odesa in the evening.
You’ll find plenty more to explore in Odesa. We will be ready to share our tips and advice.
